DHS football defensive lineman Patrick Mayrand competes for “biggest, baddest” recognition on MLive

MLive has asked its readers who is the “biggest, baddest” defensive lineman in Washtenaw County out of a list of potential candidates from Dexter, Saline, Chelsea, Ypsilanti, and Ann Arbor.

Sports writer Justin P. Hicks presents his picks from a position in the game of football that isn’t the most obviously vital or the first to stand out, compared to the quarterbacks, receivers and running-backs of the world.

“Playing in the trenches on the football field isn’t always a glorious position,” Hicks wrote. “As non-skill players, linemen can often have their work on the majority of plays go unnoticed.

“It’s more difficult for these large — sometimes massive — young men to get the recognition they deserve, but like any other position, the elite find a way to slip into the spotlight.”

MLive will be running its poll until Wednesday, Sept. 16 at 10 a.m. in order to determine which defensive lineman will get the recognition they deserve.
