Volleyball: Dexter gets first-hand look at SEC White Division

The Dexter volleyball team got an early look at the Southeastern Conference White Division during the SEC Jamboree on Tuesday at Chelsea.

“It was a huge challenge for us,” said Dexter coach D’Ann Dunn. “It’s time to get back in the gym and break down more skills to build a stronger foundation for success. Our players are working hard to get better and staying united at a team.”

Dexter finished the Jamboree with a 2-3 record.

The Dreads opened with a 25-14, 25-10 win over Lincoln. Dexter was led by Jaime Becker and Mary Gallagher each with three aces. Shelby Spuller had six kills, Grace Wilson had three kills and Alexa Bell had two kills.

Dexter lost to Chelsea 21-25, 15-25. Amanda Fileccia and Sophie Kurcz each had two service aces. Shelby Spuller had seven kills and Mary Gallagher had two kills.


The Dreads then defeated Ypsilanti 25-11, 25-6. Courtney Fiegel had five service aces and three kills; Kathleen Niedermeier had three service aces; and Gallagher and Taylor Venuto each had three kills.

Dexter lost to Adrian 16-25, 18-25. Bell had three kills and Gallagher and Spuller each had two kills.


The Dreads finished the day with a 29-27, 26-28, 22-25 loss to Tecumseh. Madison DeLacy and Gallagher each had five kills while Spuller and Fileccia each had four kills.

Dexter (9-7-1) plays Friday at the Bedford Tournament.
