DCS hires former Saline administrator Jesse Stevenson as interim Bates principal

After the departure of Bates Elementary School Principal Tim Authier earlier this week, Dexter Community Schools officials have tapped his replacement — at least until a permanent one can be determined.

Jesse Stevenson is an accomplished former Saline Area Schools administrator with more than two decades of experience in public education administration.

Stevenson has been a member of the Foundation for Saline Area Schools, which honored him and five other worthy award recipients earlier this year.

Before that he was Principal of Saline’s Houghton Elementary School, which underwent a high profile closure in 2010 that was a tough pill to swallow for a lot of folks, including Stevenson, as reported in the Ann Arbor News on June 16, 2010.

“We’re a building that put all of our energies into five and six-year-olds, and it was designed to take care of them, and that’s what we did,” said principal Jesse Stevenson in that Ann Arbor News report.

DCS officials say they plan to post the position for permanent Bates Elementary School principal for the 2016-2017 school year next March, with interviews taking place the following April.

If the process yields suitable candidates who end of not backing out or taking other offers before DCS has had the chance to do its due diligence, district officials will make their choice in May.
