Dexter Wellness Center a Certified Medical Fitness Facility

The Dexter Wellness Center is proud to announce its certification as a Medical Fitness Facility by the Medical Fitness Association in May 2015. What does that mean for the people of Dexter and surrounding communities?

The Medical Fitness Association is dedicated solely to medically integrated facilities that measure outcomes and hold themselves accountable. This certification formalizes the reality that Dexter Wellness Center is here to address health and wellness of the entire community and individuals taking responsibility for their personal health. Whether you use Dexter Wellness Center for general fitness or to prevent or improve a health problem, the highly qualified, certified staff at Dexter Wellness Center can assist.

“The certification confirms that Dexter Wellness Center meets guidelines set by the Medical Fitness Association to ensure that our programs and services deliver medically integrated, measurable outcomes.” said Angela Sargeant, Center Director, Dexter Wellness Center. “We are proud to offer a variety of programs with an educational approach to help improve the fitness, health and well-being of the communities we serve; both members and non-members.”

The certification process is an integral part of ensuring that facilities provide medical oversight, quality and safety of programs and services that support the vital role medical fitness centers perform. Based on the Medical Fitness Association’s official Standards and Guidelines for Medical Fitness Facilities, the certification process assures a facility adheres to prescribed, tough standards and guidelines. The Medical Fitness Association’s Facility Certification is the recognized mark of excellence in the health and wellness industry.

According to Amy Heydlauff, CEO, Chelsea-Area Wellness Foundation, there are only three Medically Certified wellness centers in the State of Michigan, and two of those belong to Chelsea-Area Wellness Foundation (Chelsea Wellness Center and Dexter Wellness Center). “We are committed to attaining and maintaining the very best opportunity for long-term health for residents in our service area. This designation is another way we are demonstrating our commitment.”

Dexter Wellness Center, along with Chelsea, Manchester and Stockbridge Wellness Centers, are part of a primary strategy in the Chelsea-Area Wellness Foundation’s efforts to bring about sustainable improvements in health. The Center is a 46,000 square foot, state-of-the-art facility. The Center offers programs overseen by teams of professionally trained and certified health promotion specialists. In addition, the center offers a supervised fitness program called Next Steps for individuals transitioning from or managing a medical condition including: Cancer, Cardiac, Pulmonary, Diabetes, Orthopedic and Weight Management. “Participants, including non-members, can be referred by any healthcare provider. Pre- and Post-program fitness assessment reports are sent to the participant’s physician and are used to set and measure fitness goals,” said Sargeant. “The Next Steps program is designed to also assist those who simply need additional guidance and support.”
