Plants for sale of all varieties as well as workshops on raised bed gardening and patio ponds are among the activities at Dexter Green Day Saturday. The Dexter Garden Club is presenting the event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Gazebo downtown.
Also Saturday, there will be a plant sale at Creekside Intermediate School’s south side parking lot, 2615 Baker Road. Proceeds will go to support the Creekside Garden and Kitchen Classroom Program.
BLOOM! Garden Center is sponsoring Green Day. The store, located at 1885 Baker Road, offers residential landscape design and installation, water gardening, and a nursery.
“We’re the welcoming committee to Dexter in relation to our location,” said Trevon Pelletier, owner of Bloom! “Our focus is on high quality gardening, organic products, and regionally grown items, and offering the advice you need to get things to succeed.”
Pelletier, started the Baker Road nursery in 2013. He also owns Lotus Gardenscapes, located at 7005 Jackson Road. He is pleased to sponsor Green Day.
“Green Day is a good fit for what we do,” said Pelletier. “We look at the Dexter Garden Club as our partner.”
Bloom! will offer a raised bed gardening demonstration at 10 a.m. at the Green Day event and a water pond demonstration at noon.
Pelletier lives in the Dexter area and says it’s important to be part of the community.
“Our nursery manager Stacey Rayer loves our clientele in this area,” said Pelletier. “This is a really strong agricultural and gardening community. We feel really supported by our customers.”
He says that Bloom! uses a natural compost style of plant growth that stimulates roots, which gives most of Bloom!’s perennials strong root stock.
Master Gardens will be at Green Day to answer questions as well as an interpreter from Hudson Mills Metropark to educate gardeners about invasive plant species.
