Congratulations to Dexter Community Schools teachers Ethan Konett, Kurt Kosky, and Sherry Spinelli, who were the winners of Meemic Foundation Classroom Makeover Grants from The Gordon Group Agency in Ann Arbor.
Mill Creek 8th grade English and History teacher Ethan Konett’s classroom makeover application was inspired by his recent transition from teaching high school to teaching middle school and reading the book, “Healing Spaces: the Science and Place of Well Being” by Esther Sternberg. Ethan has noticed that a comfortable classroom environment is an important part of the middle school learning environment. He’ll use his grant to purchase energy-efficient mood lighting and comfortable seats.
Dexter High School Special Education teacher Kurt Kosky will use his grant money to transform his classroom, which was formerly a meeting space, into a more aesthetically pleasing space conducive to learning.
Jenkins Early Childhood Learning Center Preschool teacher Sherry Spinelli applied for a funds to establish a dedicated science area in her classroom. She will use her grant to purchase a HighScope Science Kit, which features high-quality materials for science exploration.
