25 Money Smart Ways to Raise Children

On Saturday, April 18 at 2:00 pm, the Dexter District Library will host Melissa Joy of the Center for Financial Planning as she presents 25 Money Smart Ways to Raise Children. As part of the national Money Smart Week, this program will introduce parents to a wide variety of ways to discuss money management and the importance of handling money wisely with children of all ages.

Parents will learn ways to talk to children about handling money from allowances, techniques to impress upon children the importance of savings and how to manage income from part-time jobs as well as the value of education. Whether your child is a preschooler or a college student, it is never too early or too late to teach children how to best use their financial resources. Ms. Joy will also discuss how to best impart your family values when it comes to money handling, discuss how charitable giving and investing can be imparted to children and give tips for parents on how to balance the costs of raising children with planning for their own sound financial future.

Money Smart Week, a national partnership program between the American Library Association, the Financial Planners Association and the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, is a public awareness campaign designed to help consumers better manage their personal finances. This is achieved through the collaboration and coordinated effort of hundreds of organizations across the country including businesses, financial institutions, schools, libraries, non-profits, government agencies and the media. These groups come together once a year to stress the importance of financial literacy, inform consumers about where they can get help and provide free educational seminars and activities. We hope you will join us at the Library for this interesting and useful program. This program is free and no registration is necessary.
