On Golden Pond opens Saturday!

Lovable curmudgeon Norman Thayer is as tart-tongued as ever. His spirited wife, Ethel, delights in all the small things that have enriched their lives. Together, they are returning to their summer home on the lake for the forty-eighth year and are soon visited by their adult daughter, her uptight fiancé, and his rebellious teenage son. On Golden Pond is a heartwarming story about revisiting the past and forging new bonds across generations. This modern classic remains an inspiring celebration of the universal challenges we all face, and the ultimate triumphs of life, love, and family. You can see this story come to life at The Encore Theatre this weekend. The show runs April 11th – May 3rd, with a preview performance Thursday, April 9th.

Director Daniel C. Walker said “I came to directing On Golden Pond remembering a sort of warm, fuzzy old chestnut of a story about a grumpy old guy and his sweet wife. Working thru the actual text of the play with the wonderful cast has been a terrific and somewhat unexpected journey of discovery.” Walker continued, “The fears and tensions in all the relationships turned out to be much deeper than I remembered. There was just so much more boiling just beneath the surface than I initially realized. In the end, we discovered a truly masterfully written exploration of the complexities of love, families, and aging. It is a brilliant examination of what it is to be human, all set against the seemingly pleasant, simple backdrop of Golden Pond. It’s also, at times, pretty funny, isn’t life?.”
