A message from the DEXTER COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT

January 22, 2015

Dear DCS Parents and Staff,

In an ongoing effort to share accurate and timely information, I’d like to take a few minutes to provide a brief summary of work and events taking place in the Dexter Community School District regarding the research on potential annexation of Whitmore Lake Public Schools as well as to invite you to the annual “State of the District” presentation.

Annexation Ad Hoc Committee Update:

At the most recent joint meeting between the Whitmore Lake and the Dexter Ad Hoc Annexation Committees, it was decided that future joint committee meetings will be postponed until our district is able to take the time to complete researching questions asked by our community and to fully understand the implications of a potential annexation. Both committees felt that our time would be best spent working independently for now, and we would be more productive meeting jointly at a later date.

We hope to provide updated answers to questions regarding the potential annexation every two weeks. Please check the district’s webpage for more information at http://adhocdexterschools.weebly.com.

We understand many members of the community would like answers to the questions on the FAQ immediately, however, we are posting the answers as quickly as we can. The process is expected to take a few months to work through. We appreciate your patience in this matter. Please keep in mind that we are running a high-quality school district at the same time, and that will continue to be our top priority.

The next Informational Session on Annexation is scheduled for Wednesday, January 28th at 7:30 p.m. in the Mill Creek Cafeteria.

On a broader note, the annual State of the School District is scheduled for Tuesday, February 17th 7:00 p.m. at Dexter High School Performing Arts Center. Please join us for a presentation on the academic and financial status of Dexter Community Schools and the district’s vision and strategic plan.

Thank you for your continued support and Go Dreadnaughts!

Sincerely,

Christopher Timmis, Ed.D.
Superintendent
