A zany musical-comedy about ice fishing has been hooked by The Encore Musical Theatre Company in Dexter, and will be opening in January.
Tobin Hissong, the associate artistic director at the theater, is directing “Guys on Ice.” Hissong spoke to We Love Dexter Staff on Dec. 18 about the show.
“‘Guys on Ice’ is a wonderful small cast musical comedy,” Hissong said. “The thrust of the story is two guys in a shanty in the middle of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, in the middle of winter talking about life, love and the Green Pay Backers. That’s their big passion.”
Hissong said the show is an all-around good time for the actors and the audience.
“It really is a story that is full of heart and full of humor,” Hissong said. “There’s some beautiful music, some very funny songs, and some very good heartfelt songs in the piece as well.”
The show will feature both professional equity actors and local talent.
Hissong said he loves conveying emotions to audience members that they may not experience in a normal day. Bringing fun to people’s lives for two hours a night is what Hissong said drives him.
“That I get a kick out of, I really do.”
Hissong said it’s okay if you aren’t sure what to expect. You’ll be in for a great time.
“It’s going to surprise you. It’s going to be an awful lot of fun. It will make you laugh, it will make you smile and you’ll come out singing a couple of tunes. And if you’re really, really lucky, you might come out with a pickled egg.”
