The Dexter community is host to a bevy of wonderful holiday activities for those looking to celebrate the season this weekend.
The Dexter Area Historical Society & Museum is leading the way with three immersive and passion-infused events in and around both Gordon Hall and the Dexter Area Museum.
The historical society’s major offering is Christmas at the Mansion. Local businesses have partnered up with volunteers and donors who are continually working to complete full restoration of Judge Samuel Dexter’s house to the state it was in when he founded the village of Dexter in the 1800s.
“I think (Judge Dexter) would be happy that we are sharing his home with the hopes of restoring (it) to what he saw (when was living there,” said historical society member Carol Jones. “We hope that his spirit is with us in doing all of this,” and in opening his home to visitors from Dexter, Michigan, and around the country.
Christmas at the Mansion is one of the society’s top fundraisers. It’s credited with pushing the society over the finish line, with regard to paying off the mortgage that had to be taken out when Judge Dexter’s mansion and grounds were bought back from the University of Michigan. Santa will be at the Mansion all day on Saturday. To purchase tickets for Tea Time, call 734-426-4767.
The mansion will be open to visitors who want to witness the yuletide delights throughout the main floor this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Gordon Hall is located at the corner of Dexter Pinckney and Island Lake Road.
A Heritage Guild Christmas Bazaar and Bake Sale will be taking place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Dexter Area Museum. This event is know for having some neat items for sale, as well as a variety of tasty treats.
On Sunday the historical society will cap off the weekend with a tea time from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., the theme of which is “If Teapots Could Talk.” Participation costs $25 per person and there is a 50 person limit where seating is concerned.
Other events happening this weekend:
The Girl Scouts are having their own bazaar at the Dexter Senior Center on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Local vendors and craftspeople will be on hand to offer interesting items. There will also be a bake sale, grandma’s attic, rummage sale, Chinese auction and holiday music.
Santa will return to the Encore Musical Theatre Saturday for his second visit leading up to Christmas Eve, at which time he will return to the North Pole to make final preparations to deliver presents to all good boys and girls worldwide. He will be at Dexter’s theater from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
