Santa visits Dexter this week, will return following three Saturdays

Local families made their way to Dexter’s Encore Musical Theatre for the first of four Saturday sessions with Santa Claus this past Saturday morning.

Encore Musical Theatre Artistic Director Dan Cooney was able to strike an agreement with Old Saint Nick so he would set aside some time from his busiest weeks of the year to give Dexter children a little one-on-one time to determine what exactly it is they want for Christmas this year.

“Some children don’t get a chance to write me, so this is a good opportunity for them to reach me directly with their Christmas wishes,” Santa said, adding that many are just happy to get one of the treats being handed out to children who make the journey to the Encore to see him. That treat includes a gingerbread cookie and candy cane.

Those visitors who leave their information will also have the opportunity to receive a professional photograph of their children with Santa, taken and processed by one of the Encore’s professional photographers.

“We’re really excited about having Santa at the Encore this year — we’ve gotten a very good response to the idea from people out in the community,” said Chuck Colby, a frequent Encore volunteer, stage presence and front man of local favorite Three Men and a Tenor.

Santa’s next scheduled Encore appearances at from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 6, 13, and 20.

The Encore is also showing “Christmas Caroled” now through December 21. For more information, visit their website at
