The beats were dropping and the gym was hopping at the Dexter Wellness Center on Friday evening, October 2! The gymnasium was transformed into a Zumba dance hall as 42 members of the community danced to the tune of $820 in donations for the American Cancer Society.
The event, Dancing Towards a Cure, featured a heart-pumping 90 minutes of energetic dance songs. The Zumba moves were led by seven talented Wellness Center staff, each of whom is a licensed and experienced Zumba instructor. Zumba is a fusion of hip-hop, salsa, mambo, and other dance elements, combining for a supercharged workout that’s not only calorie-torching but also fun.
Each participant in Dancing Toward a Cure generously donated at least $10 (many gave much more!) for a spot on the dance floor. 100% of the donations fees went directly to the American Cancer Society to support cancer research!
Katherine Kuzma, one of the leaders of the event, noted: “The best part of being a Zumba instructor is having the opportunity to bring fitness, enjoyment, and encouragement to our students. Fundraising events like Dancing Towards a Cure make our job even more meaningful. We get the chance to dance and have fun while we raise money for very important causes.”
The Dexter Wellness Center would like to thank the Dexter community for rocking this fantastic charity event with such generosity and groove! If you missed the event but would like to try Zumba, the center offers several ongoing weekly Zumba classes as part of its ongoing group exercise offerings. The classes are free to wellness center members; guests may purchase a day pass for $10 to try out as many classes in one day as you like.
