Workshop Being Offered For Parents Of Dexter Student Athletes

“Parenting Today’s Youth Athletes” is a three-part seminar especially for parents and guardians of recreational and competitive athletes.

Parenting a young athlete can be as confusing as it is challenging. Should we encourage our kids to be more competitively aggressive? Is “how you play the game” the most important thing? How do you blend the two seemingly different mindsets? What about the whole sport/life balance thing?

Sports can be a powerful experience for youth. These seminars are a straightforward message from athletes to their parents about how adults can help their athletic performance, create good memories and demonstrate respect from the perspective of young people.

“Parenting Today’s Youth Athletes” is a program from Proactive Coaching and organization who works with coaches and teams to help intentionally create character-based team cultures, provide a blueprint for team leadership, develop confident, tough-minded, fearless competitors, and train coaches for excellence and significance.

Seminar Presenter Rob Miller is a motivational speaker for Proactive Coaching. Rob uses his speaking skills and coaching knowledge to promote the “Proactive Coaching” mission of helping coaches positively impact their athletes’ lives. His experience gives him an amazing view at the status of modern day coaching and parenting. Proactive Coaching has spoken to over 1.5 million people world-wide, helping coaches, athletes, and parents better navigate the world of recreational and competitive athletics. If you have a child involved in any level of athletics, you don’t want to miss these presentations.

Seminar Schedule:

Thursday, January 18 @ Dexter High School Center for the Performing Arts (CPA)

6:30 PM “The Role of Parents in Athletics.” A straightforward message from athletes to their parents about how adults can help their athletic performance, create good memories and demonstrate respect from the perspective of young people.

7:30 PM Discussion and Break

8:00 PM “Raising a Confident Athlete.” Steps for parents to become confidence builders. This is applicable for any performance activity.

Sunday, January 21 @ Dexter High School CPA

6:00 PM “The Myths and Realities of Specialization.” Multi-sport athlete or a one-sport focus? This session discusses the impacts of specialization on youth athletes today.

“Parenting Today’s Youth Athletes” promotes the idea that character lessons intentionally taught will be the best sports legacy for athletes, parents, coaches and communities. One athlete of character impacts the team – one team of character impacts the school – one school of character impacts the entire community.

These workshops are presented by Dexter Community Education and Dexter High School Athletics. All meetings are open to the public, free of charge, highly recommended for parents and guardians of athletes of all ages. No registration required.
