With an average grade point average of 4.97, the women’s cross country team was honored for their exemplary work in the classroom with All State Academic Honors.
The Dreadnaughts placed second overall in division I in the state for academic honors, meaning the team’s grade point average was the second highest of any women’s cross country team in their division.
The Dexter Board of Education honored the team with certificates at the Feb. 23 regular meeting. Board President Michael Wendorf stressed how important academic achievement is, especially for the district’s athletes.
“While it’s always great to celebrate victories on the running course, playing field, gymnasium, natatorium or whatever it might be it gives us even greater pleasure to celebrate success when it is not only athletic but also academic,” Wendorf said.
The team placed 17th overall in state during the regular season.
