Volleyball: Dreads spike two more victories in the win column

The Dexter volleyball team headed to Mt. Morris on Saturday as the Dreads continued to pile up valuable experience and net a few wins along the way.

Dexter won two of the five matches and finished third in pool play.

The Dreads knocked off Brown City 25-18 and 30-28. Dexter was led by Shelby Spuller with four services aces and nine kills; Amanda Fileccia with three aces; Jaime Becker with two aces; and Mary Gallagher with four kills from the middle.

Dexter also defeated Capac 25-15 and 25-7. This win was a “team effort,” said Dexter coach D’Ann Dunn.
Senior Courtney Fiegel and senior libero Jaime Becker each had seven service aces.

Dexter lost to Mt. Morris 25-19, 25-14. Fileccia had three service aces, Gallagher had four kills and Hannah Bohn had three kills.

Dexter then lost to Stoney Creek, playing much better in the second set. Fileccia had two aces, Spuller had four kills and Gallagher had two kills.

The Dreads faced Farmington Hills Mercy in the quarterfinals losing 25-23 and 25-20. Fileccia had five aces, Spuller had five kills, Gallagher had four kills and freshman Taylor Venuto had three kills.

Dexter (13-14-1) hosts Adrian on Thursday. The Dreads will host Chelsea on Oct. 20 in the annual Dig Pink Match.
