Volleyball: Dreads showing improvement despite loss to Tecumseh

The Dexter volleyball team is doing a good job setting the ball up for success but continue to struggle to find that killer spike to put them over the top. But there is still plenty of time, a great coach and a team with talent, energy and determination.

“We are struggling to find the grit to win,” said Dexter coach D’Ann Dunn. “We have great moments in a match, but then turn and make the opponent have several more leading to digging a hole to work our way out.”

No one is waving the white flag.

“We will continue to work on our strengths and work to build our weaknesses,” said Dunn said.

The Dreads lost to Tecumseh in three sets (21-25, 16-25, 17-25) last week.

The Dreads were led by Shelby Spuller with 10 kills and three blocks; Taylor Venuto contributed two kills and four blocks; and Grace Wilson and Alexa Bell each had four kills.

The Dreads head to the Saline Invitational on Saturday.

Dexter hosts Chelsea in the Dig Pink match on Oct. 20. This match offers many opportunities to raise money for the Sideout Foundation and Chelsea Cancer Hospital. There will be a silent auction of 20 plus great items including a piece of jewelry from Lewis Jewelers.

There will be delicious treats at the bake sale table and a photo booth.

“This is a great rival tradition that proves to raise large sums of money to fight breast cancer,” Dunn said. “We would love to see Dexter well represented at our last home match to honor our seniors on Tuesday, Oct. 20.”
