Volleyball: Dexter lights up Ypsilanti in three-game sweep

The Dexter volleyball team traveled to Ypsilanti Tuesday night and “shined” during a three-game sweep. The teams had to warm up in the dark after the lights unexpectedly went out in the Ypsilanti gym.

But once the lights went on, the Dreads jumped into the spotlight for an easy 25-11, 25-14, 25-14 victory.

“The gym lights went out unexpectedly after the JV won their match,” said Dexter coach D’Ann Dunn. “So the varsity teams continued to warm up while the lights took the 15 minutes to warm up as well.”

Dexter (17-19-1) was led by Shelby Spuller with eight kills; Taylor Venuto with six kills; Madison DeLacy with five kills; Mary Gallagher with four kills; and Alexa Bell, Courtney Fiegel and Grace Wilson with three kills apiece.

Dexter hosts the Dig Pink Match against Chelsea on Tuesday, Oct. 20. The JV and freshmen start at 5:30 and the varsity begins at 7 p.m. There will be a silent auction of more than 30 items, a SWAG table, photo booth and a bake sale.

“We would appreciate all of Dexter to help support us compete against Chelsea as we fight breast cancer together and celebrate our seniors last match on our home court,” Dunn said.
