Volleyball: Dexter drops a tough four-set match to Monroe

After a few days off the Dexter volleyball team returned to the court and ran into a tough foe in visiting Monroe on Wednesday night at Dexter High School. Monroe left town with a hard-fought win in four sets over the Dreads.

“We struggled with finding an open spot on Monroe’s court,” said Dexter coach D’Ann Dunn. “Monroe played great defense.”

Dexter was led by Shelby Spuller, who played middle for sets one and two and then switched to outside hitter. The senior contributed 15 kills, 12 digs and four service aces.

Setter Amanda Fileccia was a strong leader throughout the match for Dexter. The senior contributed four service aces, two kills, 26 assists and 25 digs.

Junior middle Mary Gallagher helped with seven kills, three blocks and three digs. Freshman middle Taylor Venuto had six kills and senior Libero Jaime Becker had two service aces and 32 digs on defense.

Dexter heads to the Mt. Morris tournament on Saturday and then back home next week against Adrian on Wednesday.

A special shout out to the Dexter JV team for winning against Monroe in a tough three set match.

Make sure to keep Oct. 20 on the calendar for Dexter vs. Chelsea in the Dig Pink Match at Dexter High School.
