Tennis: Dreads serve up young team for 2017

Rob Smothers, now in his sixth season coaching the Dreadnaughts, has a young club to work with and develop in 2017.

The Dreads will be in re-build mode after last year’s senior-dominated team went 4-5-1 and 3-1 in the SEC White.

“Our team is very young with no seniors,” Smothers said. “We will work to improve every day. We have a lot of raw talent and need to work hard to improve our tennis skills.”

Top returning players include sophomore captain Jared Enciso and junior captain Matt Keogh.

Top newcomers include sophomores Bryce Martin and Simon Kim and freshmen Ryan O’Rear and Nathan Kangas.

The Dreads host Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard on Wednesday, Aug. 30.
