Superintendent Timmis Gives Update On New Elementary School Construction

In an email to Dexter Community School families, Superintendent Dr. Chris Timmis gave this update on construction for the new elementary school:

November 3, 2017

Dear DCS Parents,

On Wednesday, we sold the bonds and are set to begin bond-funded construction.  Starting Monday, November 6th, fences will be installed surrounding the construction site for the new elementary school.  Initially, the plan was to build a twin of Cornerstone Elementary in the area now occupied by four baseball fields behind Mill Creek while creating flexible learning spaces for both buildings.  However, we’ve worked through a plan to construct the new elementary attached to the current Cornerstone Elementary School by shared flexible learning spaces.  The target completion date for the new elementary school is December of 2018.  The buildings will still operate as separate elementary schools and we’ll determine a logical timeline to move Bates students to the new elementary sometime in early 2019.  A conceptual completed campus layout is attached.

If you’d like to hear an update on the bond work, please join me on Monday, November 6th at 7:00 p.m. in the Mill Creek Cafeteria.  I’ll provide an overview of the planned bond work, construction plans for the new elementary, conceptual drawings for some of the building renovations, field relocation concepts/plans, and a chance to ask questions.

Thank you for your continued support, have a great weekend and Go Dreads!

Christopher Timmis, Ed.D.

A layout of the new school was attached to the email.
