SRSLY to host MAGIC: The Gathering Event for Youth

Wondering what Magic: The Gathering is? It’s one of the most popular tradable card games with more than 12-million players. On March 20, SRSLY will host a drop in event from 6-8 p.m. at the Dexter District Library for experienced youth as well as those who are totally new to the game.

In Magic: The Gathering, players can build their collection of cards by trading with friends, assembling decks of cards, and battling against an opponent and their deck—think Pokemon or Yu-Gi-Oh! It’s a social game that encourages you to meet new people and fosters high level thinking, reading, and math.

The event idea came from SRSLY youth member, Joey S. at the February coalition meeting. While he loves playing with his father he thought this would be a great way to find other kids in Dexter who also play. Never played before? No worries – we will have extra cards and adults available to teach you how to play. If this event is successful, we plan to host a tournament in the near future.

Community members who know how to play and are interested in volunteering during the evening can contact Stephanie Jacques by phone (734) 593-6974 or by email Stephanie@srslydexter.org. For more information about the community coalition, visit www.srslydexter.org.
