The Dexter softball team had a solid week as Districts are just around the corner. The Dreadnaughts began things on Monday (May 16) hosting rival and always touch Chelsea.
The Bulldogs took the opener 9-4. Dexter scored a run in the first and three in the seventh inning. Taylor Love was 2 for 4 with two RBI.
The Dreads dominated the second game, scoring four in the first inning, two in the second and one for good measure in the seventh for a 7-2 win. Kate Niswonger went four solid innings allowing just one run on five hits with three strikeouts to pick up the win. Taylor Wilson took the bump and went three innings for the Dreads.
The hitting stars for Dexter were Rachel Vanderroest (3 for 4 with a triple and three runs scored) and Taylor Love (1 for 4 with a home run, walk and two runs scored). Megan Niswonger had two hits, a run scored and an RBI and Courtney Lupi had two hits and two RBI.
On Wednesday, Dexter knocked off Pioneer 15-2. Wilson went six innings and allowed just two runs to earn the win. Kelsey Crosby pitched the seventh and racked up two strikeouts.
The Dreads pounded out 19 hits. Taylor Love was 4 for 4 with three RBI. Vanderroest had three hits, two RBI and two runs and Wilson had three hits with two runs scored. Crosby had two hits including a home run, a double and three RBI. Megan Niswonger had two hits, Skylar Smith had two hits, two RBI and two runs scored and Courtney Lupi had two RBI.
After losing to Eaton Rapids 10-0 in the first game of the Chelsea Quad on Thursday, Dexter bounced back with a 12-2 win over Skyline in the second game.
Maebel Robeson was 3 for 4 with three RBI. Megan Niswonger (three runs), Lupi (three RBI and three runs), Vanderroest and Smith all had two hits
Wilson and Crosby pitched the shutout.
