Soccer: Dreads score dominant win over Chelsea (photos)

The Dexter soccer team is kicking things into gear early this season, going 8-0 on the young season in impressive fashion. Nothing was more impressive than a lopsided and dominating victory over rival Chelsea last Thursday.

The Dreads built a 6-0 lead and cruised to a 6-1 win over the visiting Bulldogs in an SEC White Division showdown.

“It was Emily Zietunian’s night with a goal and three assists,” said Dexter Coach Scott Forrester. “She is a big part of a one-two scoring punch with Morgan Esch. If opposing teams focus on shutting down these two, Hannah Tarnaski takes over and slices and dices through defenses to score.”

Goal

Zietunian scored the first Dexter goal when she received a square ball played across the goal mouth from Esch, just 10 minutes into the game. Seven minutes later Ripka played a ball to Tarnaski just inside the midfield line. Hannah then proceeded to take on one, then another and another Bulldog defender and fired it past the keeper.

Tarnaski scored another when Riley Doll passed a ball from the middle of the field, where she took an attacking touch past defenders to make it 3-0 going into the halftime break.

Forrester asked that the team begin the second half with the same mentality as they did the beginning of the first half. Just 56 seconds in, Riley Doll was up to the task when Zeitunian played a ball out of the middle on top of the box. Doll fired a near post shot with great velocity that went between the keeper’s legs into the goal.

Three minutes later, the Batman-Robyn duo of Esch and Zeitunian created their trademark scenario goal to make it 5-0. Alice Kadhammer scored the Dread’s sixth goal with a nice shot, assisted by Zeitunian.

The Bulldogs got on the board as they limited the Dreads options coming out of their end, stole the ball and fired it past Dread keeper Caitlin Micallef. The Dexter keeper recorded four saves on the day.

The Dreads face Ann Arbor Pioneer on Wednesday at home.
