Smith, Tell remain on council while Michels joins as newest member

election

One registered voter for every day of a calendar year turned out in this week’s election out of a total of 3,009 registered voters in the entire city.

Of those 365 voters, 242 of them chose Jim Smith as one of their three choices, giving him the most votes of the night.

Ray Tell was next in line with 236 votes, while Zach Michels accrued 224.

Michels was the only of the two challengers to ascend to council as a new candidate, with fellow hopeful newcomer Peter Meloche receiving 197 votes — not enough to win the day.

Scio Transportation millage results

While the Dexter city council races was fairly even and close, the AATA-expanding 0.36 millage proposal was accepted by Scio voters in a landslide victory.

Of 1,691 ballots cast, 1,131 or nearly 67 percent of them had a check next to “yes” for the funding request that will see bus service expanded to Baker Road by 2017.

The transportation millage won in every single one of the eight precincts in the township.
