Paint Dexter Plein Air Festival begins Aug. 17

Local and visiting artists will paint for four days in and around Dexter as participants in the third annual Paint Dexter Plein Air Festival. The growing and extremely popular event is presented by the Dexter Arts, Culture and Heritage Committee.

The festival will be Aug. 17-22 and activities will include a friendly competition for professional and emerging artists, a quick-draw painting competition, a silent auction and artwork sale, workshops for children and adults, chalk painting in Monument Park, the History of Plein Air Painting presentation, and more.

The festival also will be welcoming an award winning judge, Kevin Barton, who will be judging both the Plein Air and Quick Draw events.

The event kicks off Monday, Aug. 17 with a presentation on the history of Plein Air Painting as artists begin to paint in and around Dexter.

On Wednesday, Aug. 19, the Children’s Event-Painting will be held in Monument Park. Pre-registration is required. The Painting Competition Exhibit and Wet Paint Silent Auction will be Friday, Aug. 21 along with the judging and award ceremony.

Saturday will feature the Painting Competition Exhibit, Wet Paint Silent Auction; the DIA Inside/Out Art and Dexter Art Gardens docent lead tour; Children’s Chalk Art event with David Zinn; and the Dexter Community Orchestra Chamber Quartet in Monument Park.
