Opening of Sloan Preserve will be celebrated at October 2 dedication ceremony

Township of Scio, MI, – The public is invited to attend a dedication for Scio Township’s Sloan Preserve to be held on Friday, October 2nd at 5 PM at the Preserve located on Baker Road, south of the City of Dexter.

The purchase of the property was accomplished with a grant from the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund which assisted our purchase from the Sloan family. The Township will also be dedicating a memorial bench that the Township’s Land Preservation Committee has placed in the Preserve in memory of Allison Arscott, a recently deceased member of the Land Preservation Commission.

The Sloan Preserve is located on Baker Road approximately 2 miles north of the I-94 exit #167, and is immediately north of the Bloom Garden Center facilities

Township Supervisor Clark said “We are thrilled to open this new preserve to the Scio community.  Working with a grant from the State of Michigan Department of Natural Resources and our own land preservation millage, we were able to obtain this beautiful property.  We anticipate the Sloan Preserve will provide many hours of enjoyment for our citizens as well as continue to provide important wildlife habitat.”
