Intersection of Huron River Dr & Zeeb Rd to become 4-Way Stop

On Tuesday, November 17th 2015, the Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) will begin converting the intersection of Huron River Drive and Zeeb Road to a multi-way stop (4-way stop) controlled intersection.

The roads will remain open with intermittent lane closures. WCRC anticipateS that this conversion will be completed the same day. However, please be advised that due to weather conditions, all dates are tentative and subject to change.

After Tuesday, drivers and bicyclists traveling on Huron River Drive will be required to stop at new stop signs at the intersection of Zeeb Road. For more information: http://bit.ly/1M9vYSj

  • Wow! This is a big change…a BIG, BIG change! Using this intersection daily, coming up and down on Zeeb, not sure I am going to trust the Huron River Drive traffic will stop…especially the cyclists. How many T-bones and injuries before they convert it to a traffic light with maybe traffic detection on Zeeb?

    • Hi Shawn,

Regarding your inquiry about converting the intersection to traffic light with traffic detection. We follow the guidelines and warrants for a multi-way stop control and a traffic signal installation as specified in the Michigan Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MMUTCD). The MMUTCD provides specific guidelines for determining whether a multi-way stop or a traffic signal is warranted at an intersection. These guidelines include the analysis of traffic volumes and crash history at the intersection.

We looked at both options for Huron River Dr @ Zeeb Rd intersection. This location met warrants for a 4-way stop and some warrants for a traffic signal. We have a priority list for locations that meet traffic signal warrants, we added Huron River Dr @ Zeeb Rd intersection to this list and it’s #21 (meaning that 20 other locations meet more warrants for more hours). If funding is available we would look at the top of the priority list, so we don’t anticipate installation of a signal at Huron River Dr @ Zeeb Rd intersection in the near future, therefore we’re moving forward with the multi-way stop.

  • Thanks… guess my free analysis jibes with your study that a light is warranted… but no money. Travel this everyday and repeat again, Dexter needs a by pass.

My other analysis is that a left turn arrow is needed on south bound baker at Dexter hoey. Park your car there and count the north bound cars that blow through yellow/red going northbound
