Golf: Dexter cards SEC White Division title

The Dexter girls’ golf team took first place at the SEC White Division Championship Tournament Monday at Eagle Crest in Ypsilanti. The Dreadnaughts carded a team total of 392 and only Red Division teams Saline and Pioneer went lower on the scorecard.

It was Dexter’s third consecutive White Division title under coach Kurt Kosky.

“The girls used their knowledge of the course to their advantage,” Kosky said. “We played a practice round at Eagle Crest yesterday and I made sure the girls did not keep their score, but instead focus on learning the greens, hazards and overall course layout.”

That practice round paid off in gold.

“The girls did a good job of managing the course by knowing what areas to avoid, limiting their putts by staying below the hole and by playing smart, not aggressive golf,” Kosky said.

Hannah Wing led Dexter with an impressive 88, the best score in the White Division and seventh best overall.

The rest of the Dexter scorecard featured Shelbea James (92), Rylee Kim (96), Megan Keough (117), Mackenzie James (116) and Courtney Palkowski (126).

James, Wing and Kim were all named to the All-SEC White Division Team.
