The Dexter football team took an early 3-0 lead on host Lincoln Friday night but the Railsplitters took over from there, scoring the next 36 points to knock off the Dreadnaughts 36-3.
Dexter falls to 0-5 on the season with SEC White foes Tecumseh (Oct. 2) and Adrian (Oct. 16) coming up next on the schedule.
The Dreads got off on the right “foot” when Cameron Chapell delivered a 21-yard field goal with 7:37 left in the first quarter to put Dexter ahead 3-0.
But a botched punt play with 55 seconds left in the opening quarter resulted in a safety. And even before those 55 seconds could tick off the clock, Lincoln busted a 65-yard run to take a 9-3 lead with 39 seconds left in the opening quarter.
The host Splitters scored 20 points in the second quarter to break the game open. Lincoln scored on an eight-yard run and then turned an interception into a touchdown to take a 22-3 lead. Lincoln scored on a 19-yard run with 2:09 left in the second quarter to take a commanding 29-3 lead into halftime.
The Splitters scored on a 30-yard pass play midway through the third quarter for final points of the game.
Lincoln had 370 yards of total offense to 99 for the visiting Dreads. The Splitters had 12 penalties for 85 yards compared to only three penalties for Dexter.
The Dreads had 12 first downs and converted 5 of 16 third-down attempts.
Braeden Ballard was 5 of 17 passing for 52 yards. Ethan Stairs had
10 carries for 24 yards. Caden Koenig, Brenden Ritter and Chase Rojeck each had two catches for Dexter.
Will Feldkamp led the defense with 11 tackles including seven solos. Pay Mayrand had 6.5 tackles including five solos and Brian Kramer had five tackles.
