Football: Dexter falls behind early in loss to Adrian

The Dexter football team fell behind early against visiting Adrian and could never climb out of the hole despite playing much better in the second half. The Dreads remain winless on the season after a 40-14 loss to the Maples.

Adrian took a 13-0 lead in the first quarter on a 5-yard TD pass and a 13-yard TD pass.

The Maples scored two more touchdowns in the second quarter. The first one came on a 13-yard run. The second one came less than 2 minutes later on a 32-yard TD pass.

Adrian led 27-0 at halftime.

Despite the score, the Dreads didn’t quit. Dexter got on the board on a 1-yard TD run by Ethan Stairs . Cameron Chapell hit the extra point to make it 27-7 with 8:21 left in the third quarter.

But the Maples answered right back on a 79-yard run. The visitors then scored again early in the fourth quarter on a 53-yard TD pass to make it 40-7.

With 2:45 left in the game, Dexter’s Nick Winston scored on a 1-yard run for the final score of the game.
Adrian had 441 total yards of offense compared to 197 for Dexter.

The Maples overcame 10 penalties for 105 yards and a lost fumble.

Winston was 8 of 25 passing for 84 yards. Stairs had 23 carries for 98 yards to lead the ground game.
Chase Rojeck had two catches for 28 yards and McCurren Seamus had three catches for 16 yards.

Will Feldkamp had another huge game on defense for the Dreads with 10.5 tackles including seven solo tackles. Tommy McWilliams stepped up big with seven tackles.

Dexter (0-7) plays Ann Arbor Skyline on Friday.
