Fall Computer Classes Begin at Dexter District Library

The library’s computer training classes resume this fall and offer all interested individuals the chance to pick up some new skills or brush up on the basics. Classes are free and conducted in the second floor computing area. Each class is approximately two hours long. While the sequence is designed to build upon previous classes, individuals may jump in at any point.

Computer Basics covers how to navigate the keyboard, use the mouse, open and close programs and save files. This class will be held on Oct. 6 at 9 a.m. and again on Oct. 8 at 6 p.m. E-mail and Internet with Facebook teaches how to open and use a free e-mail account, basic Internet searching through Internet Explorer and the basics of using Facebook. This class will be held on Oct. 13 at 9 a.m. and again on Oct. 15 at 6 p.m. Word 2013 provides an introduction to this popular word processing program. Learn to create, edit and save documents and use template features provided through the software for letters and resumes. This class will be held on Oct. 20 at 9 a.m. and again on Oct. 22 at 6 p.m. Learn the basics of spreadsheets in Excel 2013.

This class covers basic set up and design of spreadsheets, how to enter data and create basic formulas. This class will be held on Oct. 27 at 9 a.m. and on Oct. 29 at 6 p.m. Intro to iPad will show you how to organize apps, bookmark websites, close non-responsive apps and various other beginner’s topics. We’ll have an iPad connected to the projector for the class. Attendees should bring their own iPad to class for practice. We’ll be using an iPad4 with IOS8 during the demonstrations. This class will be held on Nov. 3 at 9 a.m and again on Nov. 5 at 6 p.m.

Intro to Downloadable Content will introduce patrons to the library’s eBook, eAudiobook, and eMagazine resources and show how to access the copyright free classics available at Project Gutenberg. Attendees are encouraged to bring an eReader, laptop, tablet or smart phone to the class so that they may set personalized accounts. The library will have an iPad and Kindles on hand for demonstrations. This class will meet on Nov. 10 at 9 a.m. and again on Nov. 12 at 6 p.m.
