The Athletic Booster Club of Dexter continued its string of successful fundraising efforts last night during its “Dreadnaught Barn Blast” at Cottonwood Barn.
The spacious 3,600 square foot Cottonwood Barn, located at 4569 Farrell Road in Webster Township, was packed with hundreds of area residents who paid $36.50 each ($40 at the door) to attend a barbecue dinner catered by Knights Steakhouse. Additional funds were raised via an auction held by Braun and Helmer Auction Services.
“This is one of our primary fundraisers,” said ABCD President Brad Hochren. “We’re thankful for the venue and for Dan and Laura (Waitz) providing this beautiful space for this event.”
Hochren said during the first hour of the event that he was confident that the Barn Blast would end as yet another fundraising success story for ABCD, which has been operating since 2003.
Last year the 501(c)3 non-profit ABCD raised about $46,000 to fund uniforms and equipment for programs operating under the Dexter Community School District’s Athletics Department umbrella.
“We’re 100 percent funded by the parents and the community,” said ABCD Secretary Linda Wood. “Everything that we earn goes back in Dexter sports programs so our kids can enjoy athletics.”
Since its inception, ABCD has raised over $400,000 in funds and garnered $50,000 in facilities donations to support athletics within Dexter Community Schools.
“These are challenging times with deep school budget cuts, making the money raised by ABCD more important than ever,” said ABCD Donations Co-chair Mary Beth Chesbrough. “It’s also challenging for the parents who volunteer to run the club despite having their own busy and demanding lives. We appreciate and value the parents who both volunteer and donate to support Dreadnaught athletics through ABCD.”
