Dexter Town Hall Meeting Topic Centers on City Offices, Fire Station, Sheriff’s Substation

Dexter municipal officials, both village and city, have been wrestling with the question of how to revamp government facilities including the village/city offices, the fire department and the sheriff’s substation since at least the beginning of President Barack Obama’s first term, if not the end of George W. Bush’s last term.

Initially the push for new city offices focused on the space where core village officials like the village manager, finance director, and community development manager conducted their day-to-day business. Later the discussion broadened the scope of facilities concerns beyond the Dexter municipal offices to the Dexter Area Fire Department’s downtown facility on Main Street, as well as the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office substation in a building that adjoins the DAFD’s location.

Dexter residents will have an opportunity to add their voice, or additional words for those who have already spoken at public meetings and town halls on this topic, of which there have been many.

The town hall is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 28, 2015 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

“The Village/City Facility Committee has been meeting for 8 months to analyze the deficiencies in the Fire Station, Sheriff’s Sub-Station and Village/City Offices,” City Officials said on their website. “The Committee has been working with an architect to create conceptual drawings of possible facility improvements. The information is now ready to be presented for public comment. Every resident & business owner is encouraged to attend and provide feedback on this important decision for our community.”
