Dexter Community Schools have posted the 2015-16 morning pick-up schedules for their bus routes on their website.
Times and stops are listed for each route; Bus routes are numbered and their headings include the street names of major stops on each route. There’s also a PDF that parents can download and print, but the website listings will be the most accurate and up-to-date information for the first few weeks of school because transportation will update the master document once routes have been tweaked after school gets in swing. It’s important to remember that the times are approximate. Especially during the first few weeks of school, times may fluctuate by a few minutes in each direction so students should be at the bus stop, ready to board, 10 minutes before their scheduled pick-up time.
Parents can cross one task off the big back-to-school to-do list even before the school Open Houses happen: complete required transportation forms online for the first time.
This year the transportation department has also taken a step to save paper and hassle for families: they have converted the transportation rules and emergency contact information forms to an online format. In years past, every bus family has received 2 handouts: one with rules to review and sign, and another with emergency contact information in case of a transportation disruption. Those papers had to be returned and entered into the database by hand. The online form accomplishes both tasks from the comfort of your couch or kitchen table! Find the form on the Bus Routes page of the Dexter Schools website.
One question parents often ask upon seeing the morning schedule: “What about the afternoon drop-off times?” The district does not post that information for the safety of students. Many older students are home alone for an hour or two until a parent gets home from work. Instead of posting scheduled drop-off times, the bus driver will tell parents an estimated afternoon drop-off time for their particular stop. Keep in mind that the first few days of school, drop-offs can take extra time as students and parents learn the new routines. Within a week or two, families will know the approximate time to expect their students every afternoon. If you have other questions about how transportation plans their routes, expectations for students and parents, and more, be sure to check out their Transportation Guidelines online.
