Dexter Forum October 7, 2017 Retrospective

Nothing like an upcoming election, especially one that involves new money, to perk up the crowd. The official capacity of the room is 46 so we will never report a higher number but the folks who were sitting on the floor probably have a more honest estimate.

We had a bunch of new folks who came in running and got us off on a discussion of the purchase of development rights program in Webster Township (and other area townships). John Westman (himself a first timer in addition to being a Webster Township Trustee and present at the birth of the PDR program) gave us the background information. Since one of the purposes of the PDR program is to prevent residential development (urban sprawl) we put Jack Campbell (local developer and regular attendee) on the spot to describe the impact on developers. Well, surprise surprise, he loves building next to protected lands because he can guarantee the new homeowners an unchanged view.

Then the stump was rolled out and Bill Gordon spoke in opposition to the proposed county-wide millage request for mental health/public safety/rooftop solar panel services. We do not summarize stump speeches but Bill was kind enough to provide an electronic copy of his presentation which will be forwarded to you as a separate item since that is the only way I can make it work.

Cole Miller then stepped up on the stump to promote his candidacy for Dexter City Council. The race is non-partisan with 5 candidates running for 3 positions. Cole is the fresh face in the crowd.
