Local businesses in Dexter’s downtown district are looking to offer expanded hours and greater opportunity for residents and visitors to shop during the build up to Christmas this year.
“Dexter After Dark” involves a number of special promotions and offers to those who venture out into downtown Dexter on Friday, Dec. 12 after 5:30 p.m. Participating merchants will have a lit white balloon out in front of their location.
“The intent is simply to create a pre-holiday shopping fun night for the people of Dexter,” said event organizer Gail Hauman, who also owns Boxwood Cottage & Home on Alpine Street just across the street from the Dexter Farmer’s Market space.
“Of course we always want to encourage residents to dine and shop locally, and we realize we need to create events like this to encourage people,” Hauman added.
This is the first year of many for “Dexter After Dark,” according to Hauman.
Each participating shop will have a fish bowl where shoppers should leave their contact information in order to be eligible to win a $150 gift certificate to a location of the recipient’s choice.
“We are encouraging shoppers to visit as many shops as possible to become acquainted or re-acquainted with them,” Hauman said. ” The more places you visit, the better the chance to win.”
Other prizes are two tickets to Encore Theatre.
Hauman likened Dexter After Dark to “a big cocktail part where you invite the whole town.”
“We hope this is a thriving event that lights up the downtown for a night and gives people an opportunity to get to know new people and have fun.
