Dexter Community Schools welcomes Eric Kirk as new the new Director of Facilities Operations.

The Board of Education unanimously passed a motion to accept the Executive Director of Human Resources, Barb Santos’s, recommendation to hire Kirk followed by enthusiastic congratulations after the evening’s meeting was adjourned.

The Director of Facilities Operations is responsible for the oversight of Dexter’s 7 school buildings, Copeland Administration Building, 100 acres of grounds keeping, and the entire maintenance and custodial staff.

Of the 34 applications that the DCS received for the position, 15 candidates were interviewed. And according to Santo, it was Kirk’s “wealth of experience as a facility director” that separated him from the other applicants.

Santo also said in her letter of recommendation for Kirk to the Board,

“Mr. Kirk previously worked as a facilities director and laboratory manager at University of Michigan-Dearborn College of Engineering and Computer Science. He has completed numerous certification courses including Hazardous Waste Generators, Spill Prevention, Construction Safety as well as the Facilities Management Professional Certification Program through the University of Michigan.

“Mr. Kirk comes highly recommended and will be an exceptional addition to Dexter Community Schools.”

Eric and Sherry Kirk

Kirk comes to Dexter schools after a 25-year career at the University of Michigan which included Director of Facilities and Laboratory Safety at their Dearborn College of Engineering and Computer Science.

Kirk along with his wife, Sherry, and their son, Jacob who is a freshman at Dexter High School, are all happy to have Eric working in the community where they live. Eric tells us, “This is a wonderful opportunity to work in a community that I truly love and call home, honored to be a part of the educational process of Dexter Community School District families.”

With today’s snowy forecast, the change in commute alone should only widen Eric’s already broad smile.
