With Dexter Daze 2015 “Day 1” well underway, there’s still a great deal to do out there left this afternoon and evening.
Those coming out within the next couple of hours can see the first musical performances at the Meijer Main Stage at the gazebo in Monument Park. North Congress begins at 4 p.m. and local favorite Most Wanted will start rocking at 8 p.m. just as the sun is starting to go down past the horizon.
By now entertainment in Mill Creek Park has been going on since the even opened at 11 a.m. this morning. As of publish, we’re just in the middle of Animal Magic, Inc., but those who are making their way down in the next hour can catch Learning Express at 3:30 and the kids tractor pull at 5 until 8 p.m.
Visitors to the Dexter Area Historical Society’s museum at 3443 Inverness St., can see a historical children’s clothing display, from 1 to 3 p.m., while the American Legion will hold it’s annual dinner at 4:30 p.m. The Legion is located at 8225 Dexter Chelsea Rd.
All day activities include the art & business booths from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day, with the social tent running from 11 to 11. Also available all dat at Mill Creek park are the rock wall, bounce course, bounce house and other fun activities for kids, teens and delayed developers are all sizes.
Tomorrow is the big day where the best of Dexter Daze happens, starting at 10 a.m. with the Dexter Daze Parade, and from there Pet “Big Dog Fetters” Band, Kari Holmes & The Modern Day Drifters, and Two Tone Tobacco will be performing at 1, 4 and 8 p.m. respectively at the Meijer stage.
Colors the Clown, Leslie Science Center, A2 Magic, and Dexter Educational Foundation (tie-dying activity) will begin at 10 a.m., 1:30 p.m., 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. respectively.
Local favorite “Chalk the Block” will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., led by local artist Chris Monaghan, who many folks will recognize from his sidewalk drawings at the Dexter Farmer’s Market.
Speaking of the Dexter Farmer’s Market, they will be open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Alpine Street as they usually are, although the WeLoveDexter.com staff is assured that the vendors will be making extra efforts on this particular market day with all of the additional festival traffic in the area.
The Friends of the Dexter District Library will have the second day of their used book sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., while St. James Church will hold a Chicken BBQ at 10:30 a.m. shortly after the parade. Gordon Hall guide tours begin at noon and run until 3 p.m., while a horseshoe tourney will occur at Mill Creek Park from noon until 6 p.m., during which the Union Baseball Club of Dexter will play vintage baseball at Gordon Hall on the lawn to delight crowds of folks visiting Dexter who wish to witness what baseball was like back when times weren’t quite as gentle as they are now.
