Cross-country team aces regionals, will go on to state competition

The Dexter Boys Cross-Country team is on a three-meet win streak following their Regional Championship team victory last night at at Huron Meadows Metropark in Brighton. The Dreadnaughts were projected to finish sixth in their region, but they rose to the occasion and won by 15 points over arguably the deepest region in the State.

The Dreadnaughts were led by Marc Lopez (JR) who placed 11th overall, earning all-region honors and ran a 22-second personal best. Other individual scorers for the Dreadnaughts were Jack Shelley (JR) 16:18, Lucas Bell (SR-Captain) 16:21, Miles Kanipe (JR) 16:24, and Gabe Thomas (SR-Captain) 16:37 – those four individuals had lifetime best times of 22 seconds, 15 seconds, 19 seconds, and 19 seconds respectively.

Every single member of the varsity team ran a personal best time, and the team’s average time of 16:21 was 8 seconds better than any individual’s previous personal best.

The incredible Dreadnaught win streak started two weeks ago with a win at the Gabriel Richard Invitational, and then continued last week at the SEC Conference Championship – both meets hosted at Hudson Mills Metropark in Dexter.

The win at the Regional sends the Dreadnaught harriers to the MHSAA LP Division I State Championships next week at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, MI. This is the team’s first trip to the State meet in three years.
