The Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Deputy Association will be hosting a fund raiser at the Dexter High School on Sept. 12.

Starting at 7 p.m., there will be a country/western show featuring two acts. Steve Azar will be the main act and the Dave Keely Band will be the opening act.

Tickets will be available at the door for $25 per person.

Deputy Association member Lieutenant Mike Trester says that the money raised will go to the Command Officer’s Association, then the members and the community.

“We do things like help sponsor Shop with a Cop, which happens in both the Dexter area and Ypsilanti area,” Trester said. “We have assisted with buying computers for autistic children and a couple other things.”

In the event of a fallen officer, they also raise money for the officer’s family. The yearly fundraiser has been in operation since the 1980s, according to Trester. It is sponsored by the Washtenaw County Command Officer’s Association.

Shop with a Cop is a program to buy Christmas items for local income children, who get to do it with police officers.
