County Crime Blotter: Reduction in Crime Continues Across Dexter, Scio

An array of different crimes occurred last week in Dexter/Scio Township, but the area is continuing a decreasing trend in the number of crimes committed.

An unknown crook broke into a shed at the 2300 block of Scio Rd., overnight, on Wednesday, Dec. 6, and stole miscellaneous tools. The shed was left unlocked, according to the Washtenaw County Sheriff.

An act of vandalism occurred on Thursday, Dec. 7, at the 3000 block of N. Lima Center Rd. The victim returned home after work to find his mailbox damaged. Authorities are unsure whether this incident was of malicious intent or accidental.

On Sunday, Dec. 10, another mailbox was struck down, but this time due to an intoxicated driver. Police were dispatched to the 7100 block of N. Lake Orchard Dr. at 8:47 p.m. for the destruction of the homeowner’s mailbox. While there, one of the officers noticed a vehicle driving by with new front-end damage. The deputy pulled the driver over and administered a field sobriety test which confirmed suspicion that he was the suspect in question. The driver, a 72-year-old male from Dexter, was taken to the Washtenaw County Jail.

A domestic assault occurred on Monday, Dec. 11, at the 6000 block of Gabrielle Ave. at 9:42 p.m. No injuries were reported and the suspect, a 43-year-old female from Ann Arbor, was arrested.
