Bel-Mark Lanes is expanding the size of its building and the entertainment options available to the public. In addition to bowling, Bel-Mark will be adding a new bar and restaurant as well as bocce ball and sand volleyball courts outside.
The Scio Township board approved the final site plan (4-0, DeLong, Green, Palmer absent) at its November 10 meeting adding the phrase that there be no leasing of parking spaces at the completion of the project.
“I think it’s exciting to see it happening to a worn out building,” said Township Trustee Jack Knowles. “I’m sure that they have to do it to remain competitive given what’s happening with the bowling lanes across town.”
Bel-Mark Lanes is located at 3530 Jackson Road, just west of Wagner Road. Applicant Marc Smaltz wants to expand the building to the east to provide space for a bar and restaurant. He wants to relocate the kitchen but says they will not be increasing water or sewer usage.
Smaltz also wants to add a small second story addition to the west side of the building to use for special events.
There will be a total of 3,692 of a building addition constructed as well as improvements at the main entrances.
The existing parking lot will be modified to allow for seasonal outdoor recreation activity areas as well as landscaping.
Construction is expected to be completed in 2016.
