Authier interim replacement at Bates announcement imminent

Earlier this week Bates Elementary School Principal Tim Authier sent out a brief letter announcing his resignation from the top spot at one of the community’s most beloved school buildings.

Authier had been with Dexter Community Schools as an administrator for nine years, the last five of which were spent working at Bates, after spending the previous four years working under Dexter High School Principal Kit Moran as assistant principal.

“This is not an easy letter for me to write,” Authier said in his letter. “However, after nine years as an administrator in Dexter Schools, the last five spent with you at Bates, it‘s time for me to say goodbye. It’s been a valuable experience working here and I want to thank you for entrusting the education and care of your children to me. My time here has been wonderful and rewarding.”

Authier is reportedly taking another administrative position at another Michigan school district, according to a letter sent out to parents by DCS Superintendent Chris Timmis late this week. No other details on his new job were available as of publish of this article.

“Mr. Authier’s dedication and leadership at Bates Elementary, Dexter High School, and the entire Dexter Community School District are greatly appreciated and he will be missed,” Timmis wrote. “We wish Mr. Authier the best in his new district and are confident his skills as an educator and leader will serve students in positive ways. Due to the timing of his transition and the need to start school in a few weeks, we are planning on hiring an Interim Principal.

“We’ve asked a retired elementary principal to serve as the Interim Principal for the 2015-2016 school year. We will share more information on the Interim Principal once details are finalized. An announcement will be made later this week. In March, we will post the full time position and run a complete search for a new Bates Elementary Principal. This will allow us an opportunity to secure a new leader for Bates Elementary who will take on a long-term role within the Dexter Community School District.”

Authier was much admired and was involved in exciting recent initiatives such as the deployment of iPads tablets at Bates and Cornerstone earlier this year.

“This makes me really sad,” said Valeria Gleason on Facebook, after hearing the news. “I’m grateful for the one year we had with him. He was a great principal.”
