After one too many collisions between bicyclists and/or skateboarders cruising the sidewalks on Main Street with Aubree’s Pizzeria customers and servers, the popular local family-friendly eatery decided it was time to take action to address this safety concern.
Dexter Capital, LLC has filed a request on Dexter Aubree’s behalf requesting the amendment of a 2006 special land use permit that would grant the business legal clearance to reconfigure its outdoor seating area in a manner that would protect its patrons and employees going forward.
The special land use was granted in 2006 to the previous occupant of the ground floor of 8031 Main Street, North Pointe Seafood and Steakhouse, which Aubree’s inherited as the successor occupant of the space.
The amended plan will allow Aubree’s to pull the two sections of outdoor seating closer to the front of the building, leaving a seven foot wide path for pedestrians between the seating area sides facing the street on one side and the decorative planters on the other, with an ample entry walkway from the front door of the building with access points to the seating area and plenty of clearance for people leaving the restaurant to look both ways and avoid collision with sidewalk traffic.
Nothing else about the outdoor seating will change.
A public hearing is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the beginning of the Dexter Planning Commission meeting, which is the step prior to the commission sending the measure with a recommendation to the city council for their review and decision-making process.
The commission meets at the Dexter Senior Center, 7720 Ann Arbor Street.
Those who wish to obtain copies of the outdoor seating reconfiguration in print can visit the city offices located 8123 Main Street on the second floor. The office is open weekdays between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Any questions regarding the special land use application should be directed to the Office of Community Development at 734-580-2233 and written comments regarding the proposed amendments can be submitted to the Office of Community Development via email at firstname.lastname@example.org, and must be received no later than 5:00 p.m., Friday, August 4, 2017.
