County Crime Blotter: Cold Slows Crime

Crime was minimal in the Dexter/Scio Township areas in the first week of the New Year and the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department believes the frigid temperatures could be the reason why. Three transgressions total took place from Tuesday, Jan. 2, to Monday, Jan. 8.

A home burglary was the first of the three incidents and it occurred sometime between Wednesday, Dec. 20, and Tuesday, Jan. 2, at the 7500 block of Base Lake Dr. A Base Line Lake cottage owner returned to his property to find fishing equipment missing from his screened in porch. According to authorities, the porch was left unlocked and there was no damage to the property. There is currently no suspect.

Sexual assault took place on Tuesday, Jan. 2, at the 900 block of W. Summerfield Glen., at 11 p.m. Due to the nature of this case, the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department cannot release any further details.

Tires and rims were stolen off of a Hyundai vehicle at a dealership at the 500 block of Auto Mall Dr. The results of this crime were noticed on Wednesday, Jan. 3. No other damage was inflicted on this vehicle and no other vehicles fell victim to the same larceny. As of publish, authorities had not identified a suspect.
