Track: Lady Dreads run fifth at tough Regional

The Dexter girls’ track teams headed to Saline on May 20 for the Division 1 Regional and the Dreadnaughts crossed the finish line among the top 10 teams in a very competitive field. The girls’ team placed fifth overall with 50 points. Pioneer took first with 164.5 points followed by Skyline (96.5), Saline (78.3) and Huron (60.66).

The top two teams and individuals beating qualifying times and distances advance to the state finals June 4 at Hudsonville High School.

Sophomore Kelly Miller was 11th in the 400 meters with a time of 1:05.75. Teammate Sarah Read, also a sophomore, was 14th (1:06.42).

Freshman Megyn Scafasci was ninth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:25.88. Julia Bell was 19th in 2:33.41.

Senior Alison McLean was third in the 1600 meters with a time of 5:23.45. The state-cut time was 5:09.24.

Sophomore Dani Waidley was seventh in the 3200 meters with a time of 11:45.92. Freshman Anna Varitek was 18th in 12.26.63.

Freshman Nicole Bow was sixth in the 100 hurdles with a time of 16.92. The state-cut time was 15.54.

In the 300 hurdles, junior Lindsey Hayter was 10th in 50.07. Sophomore Georgia Frost was 19th in 57.55.

In the 4×100 relay, the Dexter team of Sydney Korte, Katie Tewksbury, Madison Wright and Alyssa Enciso was 11th in 53.57.

In the 4×200 relay, Sheila Clegg, Autumn Durand, Andrea Valentine and Gretchen Schultz was 12th with a time of 2:00.84.

In the 4×400 relay, the foursome of Kelly Millar, Sarah Read, Megyn Scafasci and Gabi Fracassi was ninth overall with a time of 4:23.39.

In the 4×800 relay the team of Julia Bell, Gigi Eisele, Jordan McGinnis and Megyn Scafasci placed fifth overall with a time of 10:28.20.

Junior Caroline Shoopman was seventh in the high jump (5-0).

The Dreads, as usual, dominated the pole vault. Dexter took seven of the top 10 spots. Junior Alyssa Enciso was first at 11-03 with teammate Lindsey Hayter, also a junior, was second at 11-0. Sophomore Popi Vorias was fourth (10-06), freshman Nicole Bow was fifth (10-06), junior Chloe Vorias was tied for sixth with sophomore Madison Wright (10-0) and senior Katie Tewksbury was ninth (10-0).

In the long jump, senior Andrea Valentine was 17th (14-0).

Sophomore Popi Vorias was 15th in the shot put (29-03.5) and eighth in the discus (96-10). Sophomore Amanda Gilbert was 17th in the discus with a toss of 73-01.
