The Dexter baseball team welcomed a solid Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard club to town for a doubleheader on Thursday and came away with two close victories to improve to 23-4 on the season.
In the opener, Dexter led 1-0 after one but Richard took a 2-1 lead into the fourth. In the bottom of the fourth,
Dexter scored three runs to retake the lead. Richard tied the game at 5-5 with two runs in the top of the seventh.
After Richard scored a run in the top of the eighth to take the lead, the Dreadnaughts scored twice in the bottom of the inning for a 7-6 win.
Both teams had 10 hits in the game.
Joey Hiser continued his hot hitting with two hits and two RBI. Kyle Harris had two hits for the Dreads.
Tommy McWilliams went three innings and Caden Koenig went two innings on the hill for Dexter. Micah Berlage also pitched and got two strikeouts.
The Dreads won another close game, 6-4, in the nightcap. Dexter broke a 4-4 tie with two runs in the fifth inning.
The Dreads pounded out nine hits in the win.
Cam Milne (two RBI), Ryan Flattery and Matt Sinelli each had two hits in the win. Seth Jaimez and McWilliams also drove in runs for the winners.
Mack Martin had six strikeouts in just 3.1 innings. Hunter Edwards had two Ks in 2.1 innings of work.
